The island of Fortnite has a new, gooey problem. Chapter 6 Season 4 has brought with it a massive bug infestation, and a new storyline questline, “Welcome to the Infestation,” is here to guide players through the chaos. These story quests are a great way to earn a significant amount of XP for your Battle Pass, but they can be a bit tricky to complete without a guide. The questline has six stages, each with its own objective, and they will take you across the new, bug-infested map. Here’s a complete breakdown of every quest in the “Welcome to the Infestation” questline and the best strategies to complete them.
The “Welcome to the Infestation” Quests: A Step-by-Step Guide
This questline is a great way to earn a total of 180,000 XP, with each stage offering a solid 30,000 XP. While the quests can be done in any order, it’s often more efficient to do them in a single match. Here is the full list of quests and how to tackle them:
- Eliminate bugs (50): This is the first and most straightforward quest. The new “The Hive” and “Ranger’s Ruin” named locations are crawling with these creatures. Just drop into these areas and start blasting. You can also find smaller “Bug Invasions” throughout the map, and any bugs you eliminate will count toward the total. This quest is a great way to get a feel for the new enemy types and the new bug-themed weapons.
- Talk to Onyx Winter about joining O.X.R. (1): The O.X.R. is the new anti-bug military defense force on the island. To complete this quest, you’ll need to visit their headquarters at the O.X.R. HQ named location. Once there, you’ll find Onyx Winter on the upper floors of the main building. Simply talk to her, select the “get briefed” option, and the quest will be completed.
- Defend an Outpost (1): Outposts are small military bases located around the map. To defend one, you simply need to stay in the marked area for a certain amount of time and fend off any bug invasions. This quest can be done in a single match, and it’s a great way to get some easy XP and loot. The Outposts are often a hot spot for players, so be prepared for a fight.
- Eliminate opponents at The Hive or Ranger’s Ruin (30): This is the most difficult and time-consuming quest in the line. The Hive and Ranger’s Ruin are new POIs that are often a popular landing spot for players, but also a new, challenging area. To complete this quest, you’ll need to drop into these locations and eliminate other players. The total is cumulative, so you can take your time and chip away at it over multiple matches. Just be ready for a lot of chaotic gunfights and a high level of competition.
- Talk to Hope or Jones about the tentacle (1): This quest is a new part of the ongoing storyline. To complete it, you’ll need to find one of two NPCs: Hope or Jones. They can be found in different locations on the map, and a simple conversation with either of them will complete the quest.
- Discover the Swarm’s access point to the Island (1): This is the final quest in the storyline and it requires you to find a specific anomaly on the map. The anomaly can be found in a variety of locations, but it is often a good idea to land at a location near it and then travel there. The anomaly is a large, glowing white diamond with an exclamation mark in it. Simply approach the anomaly and interact with it to complete the final quest and earn your last 30,000 XP.
Pro Tips and Tricks for a Faster Grind
To make the “Welcome to the Infestation” questline as smooth as possible, here are a few extra tips:
- Land in less-contested areas: While The Hive and Ranger’s Ruin are the hot spots for the “eliminate opponents” quest, you may want to land in a less-contested area and then make your way there. This will give you a chance to get some loot and shields before heading into the fight.
- Use the new weapons: The new bug-themed weapons, like the Leadspitter 3000 and the Swarmstrike, are a great way to deal with the new bug enemies. They are also often a part of weekly quests, so using them in the storyline quests is a great way to kill two birds with one stone.
- Play in Duos or Squads: Playing with a team will make the quests much easier. You can have your teammates help you with the elimination quests, and you can all work together to defend an Outpost.
- Check your progress: You can check your progress at any time by going to the quests section of the main menu. This will show you exactly what you need to do and how much progress you’ve made on each quest.
